Dedication of the Irvine Prairie expansion
Dedication of the Irvine Prairie expansion
Friday, June 09
Come enjoy the beautiful tallgrass prairie in bloom and celebrate the expansion of Irvine Prairie!
Thanks to a generous gift from Cathy Irvine to the University of Northern Iowa Foundation, Irvine Prairie near Dysart will increase in size from its original 77 acres to almost 300 acres. When restoration work is completed in 2029, Irvine Prairie will be one of the largest tracts of restored prairie in eastern Iowa.
Our celebration will begin at 4 p.m. at 1174 W. 55th St., Dysart, Iowa, with remarks from representatives of the University of Northern Iowa, the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation and the Tallgrass Prairie Center.
Guided prairie walks will be offered. Comfortable walking shoes are encouraged, and attendees are welcome to bring chairs. If you have questions, please call the Tallgrass Prairie Center at 319-273-3836 or email the TPC at tallgrassprairiectr@uni.edu.
